This week marked the first in a series of opportunities at the Round Home for the girls to learn more about the diverse possible careers available to them. This week they were joined by a women who is the head of one of the largest banks in the Philippines. Below is an excerpt from Dr. Velazco's recent update:

Career choice making can be enhanced by knowledge about the world of work as well as awareness of one's aptitudes and abilities. The latter can be facilitated by formal assessments in school as well as our encouraging the girls in whatever we find are aptitudes and abilities that they are manifesting.

As regards the former, on August 5, we had the first in a series of listening to successful people talk about their work, how they got there, what efforts and abilities they had to put to work, how they feel, etc.

For this time, we invited a vice-president in one of the largest banks in the country. The girls listened and asked questions. We will invite another resource person next time from another field, and so on. The idea is to make the girls aware of the wide range of career choices they can make and match these with their values, aptitudes, and abilities, and find out what is the best matching for them.

An exciting stage of restoration and reintegration!
